I prefer to work in dark environment, however lately, I have been having issues finding the lesser used fringe keys on my Natural  keyboard.  I have experimented with many different lighting setups to shed a bit of light on the keyboard without creating eye straining glare. The end result was always something else on my desk to collect dust and get in the way.  I longed for the back lit keys on a MacBook Pro.

For many years I have been using the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.  I have searched high and low trying to find a keyboard with back lighted keys in an ergonomic layout.  Natural keyboards are everywhere and lots of people like to compute in the dark so it seems like there should be plenty of options.  But, alas, this was not the case.  There were, however, several options for back lighted keyboards with a standard layout.  I was reluctant to buy a keyboard with the conventional layout as I feared it would aggravate my carpal tunnel syndrome. To help avoid the carpal tunnel symptoms, I decided to find a keyboard with reduced key travel with a low press resistance.

I have a Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard for the television that I really like the feel of. Too bad it doesn’t have back lighted keys. After poking around on the Logitech site, searching for all of the PerfectStroke keyboards, I discovered the UltraThin Illuminated keyboard. This keyboard is exactly what I was looking for. The adjustable lighting is gentle on the eyes and provides three lighting levels. The laser-etched keys provide crisp readable characters on the keys. I have only just begun using this keyboard but so far I think it is great. I will have to wait and see if the carpal tunnel issues begin to resurface after I have been using this keyboard for a while longer.
